Valdeorras and Ribera del Duero : The first 2 Denomination tasted from Spain

Last December we tasted with pleasure the wines of the Vilano winery located in Pedrosa de Duero in the heart of productive Spain known for the Ribera del Duero appellation in the autonomous community of Castilla Y León.

Among the wines for tasting, we were particularly struck by the white wine produced on the farm with Godello grapes from the autonomous community of Galicia in the Valdeorras appellation.

The wine showed a full body and a remarkable fresh and acidic base to support the well-extracted polyphenolic components. Of remarkable structure on the palate, the Godello vinified alone has a pleasant sensorial opening with perfectly calibrated oxidative references and merged into the matrix. Fat and rich in volume, it gave itself in full showing complexity and decidedly sunny versatility. Among the red wines, Terra Incognita is interesting, decidedly floral with balsamic nuances. Decisive and serious Vilano Ribera del Duero 2019 the best red in tasting that shows satisfying notes of wild violet, black cherries and guarana. A nation that deserves attention and insights and that we can’t wait to discover at 360 degrees. Below are the comments of all the wines tasted:

Red Wines

Producer Denomination Wine Vintage Score Type
Vilano Ribera Del Duero 2019 92 Red

Iconic and decidedly structured in the sensory profile, it alternates notes of plums, wild violets, morello cherries, geraniums in bloom, guarana and green tea leaves. Medium body, round and well defined tannins and a juicy and sharp finish that will need time to unwind. Better from 2023.

Vilano Ribera Del Duero Terra Incógnita 2019 90 Red

Multifaceted and of considerable sensorial vivacity, it alternates notes of lavender, linden flowers, crumbled stone, wild strawberries, bergamot and green tea leaves. Medium body, soft tannins with little bite and a medium stretch finish. Drink now.

Vilano Ribera Del Duero La Baraja 2016 89 Red

White Wines

Producer Denomination Wine Vintage Score Type
Vilano Valdeorras Godello La Barraja Bianco 2021 93 White

Lively and with a complex sensorial nature, it shows notes of gardenia flowers, magnolia, hawthorn, white peaches, lemon peel, boxwood, incense and wet broom. Full body, polyphenolic structure and a tense and vibrant finish that gives energy to spare. Drink now or get old.
